Reach. NBC: his work “has been cited in congressional hearings and promoted by Elon Musk,” and Michael Shellenberger, explaining Benz’s importance to the Twitter Files on Joe Rogan’s podcast, misstated his credentials as “head of cyber at the State Department” (NBC News)

“Frame Game.” NBC News reported on October 6, 2023 that Benz “appears to have been a pseudonymous alt-right content creator,” “Frame Game,” who stopped posting in 2018 and whose videos pushed racist conspiracy theories. Hours after publication Benz posted a statement confirming his connection to the account, saying it “was a project by Jews to get people who hated Jews to stop hating Jews” and “Let me be clear: I am extremely proud of this” (NBC News)

Immediate impression: The insider with the receipts. Fast, dense, document-heavy; speaks in grant numbers and agency acronyms.

Energy: Prosecutorial. Every program is a node, every node has a funder, and the diagram is the argument.

Impression management strategy: Credential plus data. The State Department line on the résumé opens doors the data then walks through. Where the credential was inflated by others, as NBC documented with Shellenberger’s description, the inflation helped him.
